Does Medical Marijuana help cure Diabetes?

Many Epidemiological studies have shown that there are lower rates of obesity and diabetes in Marijuana users, when directly compared to non-marijuana users. A study found in the American Journal of Medicine, surveyed 4,657 adult men and women from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. This study was conducted from the years 2005 to 2010. After participants completed 9 hour fasts, their blood sugar and insulin resistance levels were calculated. Out of 4,657 people, 579 were active Marijuana users, with 1,975 of the participants being past users. The results showed that active Marijuana users had a 16% lower fasting insulin level and 17% lower insulin resistance. Along with these results, the study also found a correlation between marijuana use and smaller waist circumferences. This study is a fine example, of many studies that have been released in recent years, correlating Marijuana with lower Body Mass Index readings and significantly lower fasted insulin response. Therefore, showing that Marijuana may help reduce weight and aid in insulin regulation. The results of this study can then be correlated as a treatment for Diabetes. With lower BMI and higher insulin resistance, Diabetic patients may benefit from Medical Marijuana use.Study: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0002934313002003
